Dear New Guest,

Recently I was at a party chatting with some girls I had just met. I kind of liked these two women and was having fun...  Then an old “friend” whom I hadn't seen in a while, came up to us and started putting me down in front of them....  Now this guy has gone through a recent relationship break up and I know he was feeling very insecure and jealous.  Knowing this, I was able to distance myself a little from his hurtful comments. (It's always good to try to understand someone before you react to them.)  ........ But still his comments made me mad! .... So after a moment I asked myself, why am I so mad?  I really thought about it .... And I realized I'm mad because of previous frustrations I've had in my life attracting women to me, who I've been attracted to. So when my “friend” started to get negative about me around these women, it brought up that issue from my past. And really, maybe 15% of my anger was toward my “friend” and 85% was toward my previous frustrations.....

Whenever someone “pushes your buttons” it's always good to ask yourself....

 “Why is this bothering me?”

 “No, deeper than that, really why?” 

“When have I felt this way before?” 

“O.K. and when else?”

“And before that, when?”

“Recently?” 

“In my 20's or teenage years?”  

“How about in my childhood?”

When you start to look at anger and upset as an opportunity to understand yourself better, overtime, you'll find you won't get angry as often. Because you'll understand where it's really coming from... And you'll understand that most of your anger today is directly connected to previous fears and hurts in your life.... 

And that's a big breakthrough. Because you'll also find it easier to forgive people, let things go and move on to happier thoughts and actions. Plus you'll understand and control your emotions, instead of letting your emotions control you!  (And  that will help you make all kinds of better choices in your life today!)

Anger and frustration can be seen as your spirit crying out to your brain....  That you first need to understand yourself and then change your attitude or actions to live a happier life.... 

So the next time you get upset, ask yourself where it's coming from. The deeper you go, the more you will release yourself from your past and enjoy the freedom to create your today any way you want.

P.S.    O.K. we're all only human.... I haven't called my “friend” yet. But I am not nearly as angry as I was. Because I understand that my anger toward him was really mostly anger toward hurtful experiences in my past. And he made himself an easy target!  (Unfortunately, the girl I liked that evening has since moved away!)
